Sensitive skin and sun is a caution page, not a label factory. Basky will not diagnose rosacea, allergy, lupus, eczema, or sun sensitivity as a clinical entity. It will say this clearly: if your skin reacts easily, trust humility over minutes, and let a dermatologist own the medical story.
Warm, anti-shame daylight still belongs to you. Extra caution is not a personal failure — it is good judgment.
What Basky can and cannot do
Can: size a conservative safe-sun window from live UV and your Fitzpatrick beach-day answer.
Cannot: examine your skin, read your prescriptions, or promise you will not react at minute n.
Formula reminder:
safeMinutes ≈ 0.40 × MED ÷ UVI, clamp 5–90 — Basky’s conservative estimate, not a measurement, and never a guaranteed burn clock. The UV 5 / Type III ≈ 28–29 minute marketing example is unrelated to a sensitivity diagnosis; it is only a math illustration.
Extra caution, practically
- Pick the more cautious type when the beach-day answers feel fuzzy. Type I’s short windows (Type I guide) exist for a reason. You can refine in Settings later.
- Leave early. If warmth, sting, or pinkness shows up, the visit is over — see sunburn vs safe sun. Basky never rewards over.
- Lean on shade and clothing. Coverage protects. Clothing may humble the vitamin D estimate; it does not extend the safe window (clothing and vitamin D).
- Keep sunscreen on exposed skin (sunscreen and a sun timer). A wellness timer is not SPF.
- Respect high UV. High and Very High bands shrink everyone’s minutes — what to do when UV is high.
WHO bands for reading the sky — Low 0–2, Moderate 3–5, High 6–7, Very High 8+ — are context for caution, not permission slips.
Photosensitizing medications
Some medicines make skin more reactive to UV. Basky does not know your list. If you take photosensitizing meds — or you are unsure — ask a clinician before you treat any app window as a plan. Extra shade, covering, and medical guidance beat a longer bask.
Sensitive is not a Fitzpatrick type
Fitzpatrick I–VI describe broad sun-response patterns. Sensitivity can cut across them. Deeply melanated skin can have reactive days; fair skin is not the only story. Basky never ranks types as better or worse. Melanin is not infinite armor; fair skin is not a shame sentence.
If your lived response disagrees with the beach-day map, believe your skin and your doctor first. Neighbors like Type II are still only timing sketches.
When to see a dermatologist
Seek clinical care for rashes, hives, blistering, worsening conditions, mole changes, or anything that worries you. Bring your medication list. Basky’s Today screen is not a waiting-room substitute.
Wellness tone, on purpose
Basky’s brand is warm and anti-shame. Sensitive days are not a streak failure. A daylight check-in when UV is too sharp still counts as showing up for yourself. How Basky works: calm outdoor rituals, not burn culture, never tanning-as-identity. The safe-sun timer remains a ceiling you are allowed to under-use.
A gentle bottom line
If you are sensitive, use Basky as a shorter leash, not a challenge. Conservative types, early exits, sunscreen, shade, clothing, and clinicians. The vitamin D estimate is not a dose. The window is not a dare.
You can love daylight and still choose the most cautious Settings answer, leave ten minutes early, and book the dermatologist — that combination is Basky-shaped care, not overreacting.
